(Daily360.com) TryBrewed Coffee Concentrate is a product that has been voluntarily recalled by Waco Bottling LLC for not including adequate labels to inform consumers of the ingredients in the product. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has rated the recall as class three, which means it is very unlikely to cause significant health concerns.
3,852 bottles have been shipped out via Amazon, but only 321 of those have been recalled. The FDA has jurisdiction to issue recalls to protect consumers under the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act as well as the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act. The purpose of having restrictions on food labels is to ensure consumers who have dietary limitations or health concerns can see if a product contains any potentially problematic ingredients.
It is not believed that the products were intentionally sent without containing a suitable label. In some cases, a human error could explain the absence of a label on a product that is regulated by the FDA. Another explanation could be that the company did not have enough labels to affix to the products it was sending out. Label shortages and human error are the typical causes of products not being adequately labeled.
The FDA has an active page that lists products that have been recalled by the manufacturer. In mid-June 2024, there are recent class 2 recalls on select chocolate products and cheddar cheese for concerns of salmonella contamination. A class 2 recall is described as having a potential to cause temporary health issues or side effects, but unlikely to cause long-term health effects.
The FDA also regulates drugs and products. In early June, the agency recalled a piece of software that is used during brain surgery and classified this as a class 1 recall. A class 1 recall is the most significant classification and means there is a chance of serious injury or death. In the case of the software recall, the FDA says use of the software could lead to brain or spinal damage and several other potential complications.
