(Daily360.com) – The Senate Judiciary Committee featured witness this week was Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and it was a rather combative affair. For his part, Mayorkas was evasive and seemingly tried to give long-winded replies to have the senator’s allotted time expire. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Tx) asked the Secretary the very simple question of is there a border “crisis?” Mayorkas refused to give a direct answer, choosing to refer to it as a “significant challenge.” Cruz then referred Mayorkas to Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz answering the same question with a simple “yes” he accused Mayorkas of being a politician and not doing his job.
Cruz then brought out a staggering array of stats to confront the Secretary. He asked Mayorkas of the 5.5 million illegal aliens who have entered under the Joe Biden Administration and how many are known to be criminals such as child molesters, rapists, and murderers. He asked how many terrorists have been released into the country. Mayorkas again gave no direct answers instead choosing to claim he’s doing a good job and said these issues pre-date the Biden Administration.
Things became most heated when Cruz was showing Mayorkas charts and photos of crossers and negatives. Cruz came to a photo of wristbands in an array of colors placed vertically. Cruz asked Mayorkas if he knew what was pictured. Mayokras said he did not. Cruz became visibly upset and his tone became emotionally astonished as he informed the Secretary those bands indicate the amount of money the wearer owes the Mexican cartels for the border cross. He said they litter the border and are indicative of children being sold in slavery. He went on to lambast Mayorkas, informing him that Border Patrol agents “despise” him for being overly political and keeping them from doing their jobs. He said all the victims of the border lay at his feet. Mayorkas was visibly angry and when given a chance to reply he said Cruz’s remarks were “revolting” and he would not address them. Cruz dropped the last word by saying Mayorkas’ refusal to do his job was “revolting.”
