Human Rights Group Prepares To Sue Biden Over Gaza

(Daily360.com) – A New York based civil rights group is suing the Biden administration, claiming they are supporting genocide. The Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR)’s claim is that the United States’ support of Israel in their war with Hamas supports what they describe as “mass killings” and ethnic targeting. They claim Israeli forces are targeting civilians and civilian targets which is causing forced civilian expulsions that the Israeli’s need to answer for.

The CCR is invoking the 1948 international convention, which was written post WWII as a result of the Holocaust, and which defines “genocide” as one force’s intent to destroy wholly or partially, an ethnic, national, religious or racial group. The first article of the convention calls for all signatories, of which the U.S. is one, to “prevent and punish” such actions.

The CCR says since the U.S. is Israel’s biggest supporter, it holds the most culpability. The complaint attempts to make the case that the U.S. should be using its means to deter Israel, not indulge it. The lawsuit, filed in the state of California, is asking the court to bar the U.S. from aiding Israel with arms, money and diplomatic assistance. It further asks the court to make President Joe Biden, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken “take all measures” available to them to prevent any genocidal acts by Israel.

The CCR has defeated the U.S. government in court before when they landed a major win in 2004, establishing prisoner rights at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp in Cuba. The CCR calls Hamas’ actions on October 7th, the murdering of about 1,200 people and the taking of roughly 200 hostages, an insufficient cause for Israel to launch attacks.

The lawsuit states that Israel’s order to more than one million Palestinians to leave the Gaza area, along with the language used in the order, adds up to genocidal intent. They said Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quoting from the Bible’s Book of Deuteronomy was his coded way of supporting genocide.
