Illegal Migrant With Prior Deportation Accused of Rape

(Daily360.com) An illegal immigrant was arrested for the rape of a 16 or 17 year old child in Provo, Utah. Few details have been provided, but Francisco Lopez-Ramirez’s jail records indicate he is being charged with rape and unlawful sexual activity with a minor. Lopez-Ramirez was arrested previously in 2010 for local charges, but the specific details have not been reported.

Following his 2010 arrest, there was an immigration detainer placed on him by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). About two weeks later, a judge determined that Lopez-Ramirez would be deported back to Mexico. There is no record of the suspect entering the United States again since his 2010 deportation. He came in without any inspection from immigration or border officials and was able to commit a criminal act in Provo.

On July 4, ICE found out about Lopez-Ramirez’s arrest and issued an immigration detainer on the same day. He is now classified as “unbailable” and his court date is not yet known.

According to a June report, Utah Governor Spencer Cox said Denver Mayor Mike Johnston was bussing illegal immigrants to Salt Lake City, only 45 miles from Provo where Lopez-Ramirez was arrested. Cox said Denver and Mayor Johnston did not consult him or local officials in Salt Lake City before sending the illegal migrants. Cox said it was “completely unacceptable” to do this without prior approval.

59 immigrants were reportedly bussed to Salt Lake City within the 30 days preceding the report. Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall said she is attempting to utilize resources to help the immigrants, but all emergency services and shelter space is full. Governor Cox placed the blame on the Joe Biden administration and the current border policies for turning all of the states into border states.

In February, Mayor Mendenhall disagreed with Governor Cox about the supposed increase in drug crime linked with illegal immigration. Despite Cox’s assertion of increased drug crimes, Mendenhall said there is no data to support the claim.
