(Daily360.com) A watchdog report found that 92% of Vice President Kamala Harris’ staffers have left in the three years since she took office. She has a total of 47 staffers and only four of them from the beginning of the administration are still working for Harris. In the last 12-month period, 24 staffers have left, which is about half of her total employees.
A December 2021 report indicated turmoil within Harris’ staff that included “backstabbing, chaos, and dissatisfaction.” Other staffers said they were treated like “s***” and the work environment was abusive. Things don’t appear to have gotten better since that report as there continues to be a high turnover rate within the vice president’s office.
The lack of senior aides on her team has caused concerns for the Democratic party that she doesn’t have a strong enough team to mount a meaningful challenge against former President Donald Trump in the November presidential election. Harris has received similar criticisms of her leadership approach before she became the vice president. A former California staffer for Harris accused her of failing to read briefing materials and blaming the staff for her own personal shortcomings. Others have said she uses “bullying” tactics and gives her staffers “soul-destroying criticism.”
President Biden is reportedly concerned about Harris’ chances of defeating Donald Trump in November, but dropped out due to pressure from party leaders. Despite the pressure placed on Biden to drop out, many Democratic party leaders are also concerned about Harris’ potential to win the election. Some Harris aides have said that she “prosecutes” staff members with harsh interrogative questioning tactics like she used against Trump officials when she was serving as a California Senator.
Aides for President Biden have said they felt uncomfortable with the way Harris grilled Karine Jean-Pierre, who was serving as Harris’ chief of staff. Jean-Pierre went on to become the White House Press Secretary and replaced Jen Psaki in the role. When Joe Biden served as vice president, 17 of 38 aides stayed with him during his eight years as VP.
