(Daily360.com) – Nancy Pelosi was asked on MSNBC whether she wants President Joe Biden to continue his campaign for a second presidential term, but dodged the question.
Pelosi said she will back the president in whatever decision he makes regarding his re-election bid. Show contributor Willie Geist said Biden has already announced that he is going to continue as the Democratic nominee. He asked Pelosi if she wants Biden to run and she repeated the same answer. She said it is up to Biden to make that decision, and she will support whatever he decides.
There has been a notable divide between the Democratic party politicians, donors, and voters regarding whether Biden should stay the nominee for the November election. Following the debate performance and a series of significant “gaffes,” there is disagreement about what is the best strategy to defeat Donald Trump. Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado said Trump is on track to win the election, which will also reflect badly on Democratic party candidates in the House and Senate.
As Biden has attempted to quell fears about his mental acuity, he held a press conference on June 11. Biden was talking about Vice President Kamala Harris when he was responding to questions about whether Harris was qualified to be the president. Biden said he wouldn’t have chosen “Vice President Trump” if he didn’t believe that “she” was able to be a good president. Earlier in the day, Biden was introducing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but referred to him as President Putin.
During his speech, Biden said the only way he would consider dropping out of the race is if polls show that he has no possible way of winning the election. He followed up by saying the polls do not show that. According to DNC rules, Biden would have to voluntarily resign as the party’s nominee for his pledged delegates to consider other options. There is one rule that may be interpreted as an option for delegates to vote for other candidates instead of Biden, but it is not clear if it would stand up in court.
