Royal Family Expert Issues Warning on Harry’s New Book

(Daily360.com) – On January 10, Duke of Sussex Prince Harry and his publishing company released a memoir titled “Spare.” Even before the book hit the shelves, there were rumors about what the youngest child of the late Princess Diana and King Charles III would reveal about his life with the royal family and the inner workings of the monarchy.

Throughout Harry’s marriage to his wife, Meghan, the prince has made it no secret that there has been drama behind the palace walls. There is now a concern the book could cause even more problems for the fractured family.

Details of the Book

Born in London, England, in 1984, Prince Harry was the second child of then-Prince Charles and Princess Diana. As such, he was not the next in line behind his father for the throne. That honor would go to his older brother, Prince William — making little Harry the spare. The title of the book is reportedly a play on the British saying, “the heir and the spare.”

In an interview between Harry and Anderson Cooper, the CNN host described the book as largely being about “grief and loss,” and the way life events can affect someone’s life.

Just before the book’s release, People magazine reported that the duke didn’t release a memoir to talk about the station in which he was born but the man he grew to be. He promised to discuss his ups and downs in life, his errors, and the lessons he learned along the way. Prince Harry also promised to be “truthful” with his words and hoped the book would show he’s not much different than anyone else in life.

The book also goes into detail about the prince parting from his family. Harry discussed how it felt to be the “spare.” The younger royal included tidbits of his private life, like the fact that he was never allowed to hug his own grandmother, and he had to ask for permission to wear a beard at his own wedding.

Recent Controversy

In 2020, Prince Harry and his wife stepped back from the monarchy and moved to the United States — without giving up their royal titles. The two appeared in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in early 2021. During that discussion and others, the duchess accused a member of the royal family of worrying about the color of their child’s skin, sparking talk of racism within the palace walls. However, the prince subsequently backtracked, saying neither he nor his wife believe his family is racist.

Over the years, Prince Harry has accused his family of mistreating his wife and feeding untrue stories to the press. He also recently alleged Queen Consort Camilla had leaked stories after the death of his mother to make herself look better to the public, and he expressed the resentment he’s felt over the British media.

Harry has said the ball is in his family’s court now as to whether they want to repair their relationship. Though the palace has not commented on the allegations made in the book, the public will see whether the family is making progress in a few months during King Charles’ coronation ceremony. It’s unclear yet whether the Sussexes were invited to attend.
