Uncertainty Surrounds Biden’s Ukraine Policy

(Daily360.com) – Many are wondering what the government’s Ukraine strategy is while the battle on Capitol Hill rages over funding. Joe Biden has made it clear that he wants Ukraine funding and he wants it now. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) agree with Biden and to that end the Senate passed a foreign aid bill that includes a number of nations with Ukraine receiving the most.

The Senate and White House are so desperate to clear the money for Ukraine they have tried to attach it both to securing the US border and to Israeli aid for its current war with Hamas. The bill that is currently sitting before the House is the one that ties Israeli aid to Ukraine and seems to be “dead on arrival” according to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA). Biden and his team are using the media to pressure House members into caving and approving the aid. They’ve even floated doing it by discharge petition, which would see the majority of House members sign on to give temporary control of the body to Hakeem Jefferies (D-NY) in order to get this measure passed.

The House is currently away on vacation but the Speaker says he will not take it up when they return. The discharge petition plan looks to be stalled, not because of Republicans but because of far-left Democrats who oppose any Israel funding. So, for now the Senate’s multi-nation aid plan is not working out.

The question still remains as to what Biden’s long range plan is. The White House never offers details; instead they attack anyone who questions Ukraine aid as being a “Putin sympathizer.” This includes former president Donald Trump who will likely be the Republican nominee in 2024. He has been vocal about wanting the war to end peacefully as soon as possible, a position that Biden and his operatives also describe as Putin-friendly. The sentiment of the people seems to be moving against more Ukraine aid as Biden looks physically weak and does not command the respect he needs to bully the bill through. Another thing working against the pro-aid position is the ever-increasing view that Ukraine simply can’t win, no matter how much money they receive.
