ABC Executive Stephanie Leifer Dies Aged 56

(Daily360.com) An ABC executive, Stephanie Leifer, passed away from cancer at the age of 56 following 28 years of working for the company. Her most recent job title was the head of current programming for ABC Signature. That part of the company is a subsidiary of Disney Television Studios. Leading up to that job, she held the same title for ABC studios beginning in 2010.

Her first position with ABC started in 1994 when she worked in comedy development for the network. A Disney spokesman released a statement following Leifer’s death. The statement referred to Leifer as a “beloved member” of the company and that the news of her death is “devastating.” The statement also offered sympathy to her friends and family, which includes her husband Jonathan.

As the executive vice president of programming, Leifer oversaw the production of many shows including the critically acclaimed award-winning “Grey’s Anatomy.” A funeral will be held for people who knew Leifer personally. The family is also asking for donations that would go to CASA of Los Angeles. Leifer also spent her time as a “court appointed special advocate” for foster care children in LA.

Leifer retired from ABC in 2022 following a 28 year career for the company. It is unknown the reasons for her stepping down at the time or how long she has had a cancer diagnosis. During her time at the company, she oversaw the production of many TV shows. “Grey’s Anatomy” has been on the air for 20 seasons and has aired over 420 episodes of the program.

Leifer was a part of several other popular TV shows, including “Lost,” “Ugly Betty,” and “Private Practice.” “Lost” was on air for six seasons and received Golden Globe, Emmy, and Screen Actors Guild awards for production and members of the cast. “Ugly Betty” was on air for four seasons and also received awards from the Golden Globes, Emmys, and the Screen Actors Guild.
