Illegal Migrant Murders 2 Inside Chick-fil-A

(Daily360.com) Oved Bernardo Mendoza Argueta, a 37 year old immigrant man arrested for killing two people at a Chick-fil-A, was in the ICE system as an illegal migrant. On June 26, Argueta shot and killed two victims at the restaurant in Irving, Texas. The owner of the franchise expressed deep sympathies for the tragedy that unfolded and said the two team members will be missed.

Argueta is reportedly married to one of the Chick-fil-A employees who identified Argueta as the suspect of the crime. Patricia Portilla was identified as one of the victims and Brayan Godoy was the other victim. The shooting was believed to be a targeted act of violence.

Portillo was a grandmother while Godoy was a father of four children. Godoy moved to the area from Guatemala and was sending money back to his country to help his wife and children. A friend of Godoy was shocked that his life was taken and referred to him as a “kind, gentle soul.”

Argueta is an El-Salvador native and the motive for the shooting is unknown at this time. There have been no details provided regarding the incidents that led up to the shooting.

The discussion of illegal immigrants committing crime in the United States has heated up amid the presidential campaign between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. Under Biden’s leadership, a record number of immigrants have crossed the southern border without apprehension.

While data suggests illegal immigrants are less likely to commit violent crime than native individuals, new data from the Cato Institute shows other concerning disparities. The 10-year Texas homicide conviction rate for illegal immigrants is 26% lower than the rate for native born citizens of the United States. The native-born homicide conviction rate is three per 100,000 while the illegal immigrant rate is only 2.2 per 100,000. The statistic for legal immigrants is 1.2 per 100,000. That disparity between the three groups is also reflected in the 2022 data.
