Kamala Moves into Poll Position as Predicted Democratic Nominee

(Daily360.com) – Vice President Kamala Harris is now the favorite to be the Democratic nominee for president on the November ballot according to betting markets. On July 10, President Biden was the frontrunner with 43% of the vote to Harris’ 38%. In a significant jump, the following day saw Harris jump up to 44% and Biden fell back to 38%.

This comes as President Biden has faced calls to step aside as the presidential nominee, but has confidently stated that he is staying in the race. According to DNC rules, Biden would need to voluntarily give up his delegates in order for another candidate to move to the top of the ticket for the 2024 election.

Meanwhile, the betting market odds for who will win the presidency has Donald Trump at 69.23% probability as of July 11. In the aftermath of an attempted assassination on the former president, many speculate that Trump’s odds of winning the election will increase substantially. As of July 11, Harris was sitting at 20% probability of winning the presidential election in November.

On the same day, a poll was released to explore the possibility of a head to head matchup between Harris and Trump. The poll results gave Harris a two point advantage over former President Trump, although that is in the popular vote rather than the electoral college. On July 10, Senator Peter Welch called for Biden to step aside and he was the first Senator to formally and publicly call for Biden’s resignation as the presumed Democratic party nominee.

About one out of four Republican voters said during an early July poll that they are not satisfied with Trump as the Republican nominee. Among those voters, Trump has a 46 point advantage over Biden in a head to head matchup. Harris doesn’t fare as well for the same group of voters as she trails Trump by 57 points in the same voting bloc. The Democratic National Convention takes place August 19-22.
