(Daily360.com) According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the United States has significantly reduced the number of weapons sent to Israel.
The administration has not been sending weapons to Israel if the U.S suspects they will be used to strike the city of Rafah. President Biden warned Netanyahu and Israel that this would happen if they began striking Rafah. Netanyahu says that other weapons have also been held or delayed by the U.S., but the administration denies this accusation.
Netanyahu spoke frankly about the situation in a meeting on June 23 in which he said the U.S. support for Israel during this conflict changed radically four months ago. He said Israel asked the U.S. to speed up the shipments of weapons and aid, but only received a myriad of excuses for the delayed shipments.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the administration is unaware of what Netanyahu is referring to regarding the lack of weapons shipments. Israel has faced scrutiny regarding their war tactics since they began responding to the Hamas attacks on October 7.
In May, the International Criminal Court issued a warrant for the arrest of the prime minister for war crimes as well as Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. They have also issued warrants for two other high-ranking members of Hamas for war crimes that include the taking of hostages, rape, and torture. Both Netanyahu and President Biden denounced the court for equating the actions of Israel to Hamas.
Despite Biden’s support during the conflict with Hamas, his administration has said they will not provide weapons or material support for Israel to attack large city centers. Yoav Gallant, the Israel Defense Minister, visited Washington D.C. on June 23 to meet with Secretary of State Antony Blinken and others. Gallant stressed that the U.S. is Israel’s most significant ally during this ongoing war. His discussion with Biden administration officials was expected to include plans for saving the hostages and strategies for attaining “regional stability.”
