Ground Beef Recall
Cargill Meat Solutions is recalling over 16,000 pounds of raw ground beef due to possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination. These products, produced on April 26-27, 2024, were shipped to Walmart retail locations nationwide. Though no confirmed adverse reactions have been reported, E. coli can cause serious health issues, including dehydration and hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Authorities advise consumers to discard or return the affected products.

The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) highlighted the importance of using a food thermometer to ensure ground beef is cooked at a high enough temperature to kill harmful bacteria. E. coli infections affect roughly 265,000 Americans annually, underlining the significance of food safety measures.
Deli Meat Recall
Boar’s Head Provisions Co., Inc. is expanding its recall of deli meat products by approximately 7 million pounds due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This recall includes 71 products, sold under the Boar’s Head and Old Country brand names, produced between May 10, 2024, and July 29, 2024.
“The products subject to recall were distributed to retail locations nationwide and some were exported to the Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Panama.”
FSIS is working with the CDC and state health departments in their investigation. So far, 34 people across 13 states have been infected, with 33 hospitalizations and two deaths reported. Listeriosis can lead to severe health issues, particularly among pregnant women, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, and in severe cases, convulsions.
