(Daily360.com) President Joe Biden has amped up his rhetoric on the campaign trail as he referred to challenger Donald Trump as a convicted felon. During a fundraising event in Connecticut, Biden said it is a historical first that a felon is running for President of the United States. He slammed Trump for launching an assault against the American justice system.
Since the beginning of the trial against him, Trump has referred to the case as “rigged” and a “scam.” Biden responded to those comments during his speech by calling Trump “reckless” and “irresponsible” for claiming the process is rigged just because he doesn’t like the verdict. Trump received a record amount of campaign donations in the day that followed the 34 felony convictions in the New York “hush money” trial.
Biden made it clear to the American voters that Trump is still capable of winning the election and moving into the White House next January. He said the only way to make sure Trump does not become president is to defeat him at the ballot box on November 5. The two contenders square off in the first presidential debate on June 27.
National polls following Trump’s conviction show Biden with a slight 1-2 point advantage depending on the poll. However, it is six swing states that will determine the electoral college in November in which Biden was victorious in 2020. Trump currently leads Biden in the polling numbers for all six states. Trump leads by more than 4 points in Nevada, Georgia, and Arizona. He is ahead of Biden by 2.3 points in Pennsylvania. Michigan and Wisconsin show Trump ahead by slim margins of a half point in Michigan and a tenth of a point in Wisconsin.
Biden is feeling the pressure to sway voters in these contested states and using stronger attacks on Trump is one new strategy he is implementing. Biden also said Trump has “snapped” and has been going crazy since the 2020 election.
