(Daily360.com) Public records show that Donald Trump donated $6,000 to Kamala Harris’ campaign when she was the California attorney general. Trump provided the first donation of $5,000 in 2011 and $1,000 to Harris’ campaign in 2013 when he was a private citizen. Ivanka Trump also donated to Harris in the amount of $2,000 in 2014.
A 2019 report indicated that Trump made the donation at the request of New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman as part of a Harris fundraiser. Ivanka Trump and other executives from Trump’s organization were at the event. A Kamala Harris spokesperson said in 2015 that she donated the money to a non-profit that provides assistance to Central Americans.
Donald Trump has previously identified as a Democrat and has changed his party affiliation several times since the turn of the century. In a 2004 CNN interview, Trump said he identifies more as a Democrat because the economy does better. He added that it shouldn’t be that way. He was registered as a Democrat from 2001 to 2009 when he switched to the Republican party.
The information regarding Trump’s donations to Harris’ campaign has resurfaced following the announcement that Joe Biden is stepping aside as the Democratic party nominee. President Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the best option for a head-to-head matchup with Donald Trump in November.
Following the announcement, a Trump super-pac immediately released an ad against Harris’ record including her position as border czar under the current Biden administration. The ad also accuses the vice president of covering up the mental decline of President Biden. That point of contention has been raised by several people in the aftermath of Biden’s announcement. Representative Chip Roy has called for an impeachment of Harris in response to her allegedly lying about the president’s health and mental acuity.
According to the polling data, Trump leads Harris by two points in a head-to-head matchup for the national popular vote.
