(Daily360.com) An off-duty New York police officer was car-jacked in New York by Venezuelan migrants on the evening of June 14.
Little information is known about the suspects, but it is believed that they are part of a South American gang. Pictures show one of the suspects with a neck tattoo of a symbol that is linked to a specific gang. One of the criminals had a pistol with a Glock switch, which makes the weapon fully automatic. An automatic pistol is not ordinarily seen in New York City.
The suspects knocked the officer’s gun from his hand and ordered that he hand over the keys. They got into the officer’s personal vehicle, a 2020 BMW, and fled the scene. NYPD tracked down the car via the victim’s iPad that was inside the vehicle. They found the car less than a mile from where it was stolen. Police searched the area and eventually found the two suspects with two firearms.
The suspects did not have identification, but provided names that are believed to be fake. The two suspects have been charged with several crimes related to theft of a vehicle and having a machine gun. The two allegedly had possession of a stolen device, made unlawful modifications to a firearm, and had illegal possession of an ammo feed device.
With a continued influx of migrants and illegal immigrants into New York City, there has been criticism of the policies that allow immigrants to stay in the country and commit crimes. Donald Trump has said that illegal immigration is causing violent crime in America. Many have denounced his statements and point to statistics that show illegal immigrants are less likely to commit violent crimes than native-born citizens. However, there are illegal immigrants committing murders and violent crimes that would not have occurred if they were deported.
Trump recently blamed President Biden’s border policies for causing the murder of Maryland woman Rachel Morin that occurred at the hands of an immigrant that illegally crossed the southern border into the U.S.
