NATO Send Historic Aid Package to Ukraine, Still Not Enough

(Daily360.com) NATO is sending a “historic” relief package to Ukraine amidst the ongoing war with Russia.

The financial aid package comes days after an extreme Russian attack on Ukraine that included complete destruction of one of the biggest children’s hospitals in the country. The Russian missile attacks caused at least 36 fatalities across Ukraine. Joe Biden’s administration described the children’s hospital attack as “horrific” and “senseless.” It is unknown how many bodies are buried beneath the wreckage of the hospital.

Zelenskyy vowed retribution following the attack and NATO allies are springing into action to support Ukraine following the massive strike. NATO is expected to give four more patriot missile batteries to Ukraine, but Zelenskyy has asked for seven. The Ukrainian president told NATO that Putin needs to be “brought down to earth” and they need NATO’s support.

Michael Carpenter of the U.S. National Security Council said it is important that Ukraine receives more air defense systems to prevent similar tragedies from occurring. Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO allies have so far provided $40 billion in annual aid to Ukraine since the war began in 2022. Stoltenberg said it is important to continue the same level of support moving forward.

President Biden spoke at the NATO summit and said the allies will be sending air defense systems and missiles to Ukraine. He stated that the conflict will come to a close with Ukraine remaining a “free and independent country.” Biden also said that Putin desires to demolish Ukraine and remove them entirely from existence. He said that Russia will not stop with Ukraine, which is why NATO needs to continue providing support. He added that Russia will “not prevail” in their attacks against the NATO ally and Ukraine will stop Russia.

Zelenskyy said Russia is firing 3,000 bombs into Ukraine on a monthly basis and has asked NATO for continued support. Specifically, Zelenskyy is asking for more “weapons, financial aid, and political support.”
