Las Vegas Airport Takes Off with Marriage License Bureau Pop-Up

(Daily360.com) – With an expected boom in marriages this New Year’s Eve, the Harry Reid Airport in Las Vegas has opened a first-of-its-kind pop-up wedding shop. The reason for the surge in expected marriages is simply a matter of the date. The last day of the year December 23, 2023 written numerically is 12-31-23, if you still don’t see what is exciting so many loving couples, you may with a few more dashes, 1-2-3-1-2-3.

The two consecutive 1-2-3 sequences is a rare occurrence and people want to add this oddity to their marriage story. The pop-up shop was set up on December 26th and will remain until 5pm on the 31st. Couples immediately took advantage of this airport option with many signing up on the first day the shop was open.

Among the couples who marry in Las Vegas about 80% are from out of town with about 20% being international. Since so many of the participants don’t live in the city and would typically arrive via the airport the convenience of being able to take care of the paperwork there and saving a trip downtown is quite appealing.

Clark County Clerk, Lynn Marie Goya, said she’s even been seeing people get off airplanes wearing wedding dresses. The pop-up shop offers wedding certificates as well as vow renewal certificates and even a little New Year’s Eve commemorative item. City officials expect the pop-up shop to get busier each day leading up to New Year’s Eve. They think they may get as many as 1,200 couples arriving to be married on 1-2-3-1-2-3.

New Year’s Eve has always been a popular date for weddings as couples look to throw their own party on the biggest party night of the year. The wedding website The Knot even has a post detailing “59 NYE Wedding Ideas” to make it stand out. Another wedding-themed website called OneFabDay.com has a similar post listing the “10 things” people may forget when planning their NYE wedding. December 31, 2023 has the potential to be the biggest single day for weddings in U.S. history.
