Poll: 7 in 10 Side With Trump In Criminal Case

(Daily360.com) 70% of Americans in a poll believe that Donald Trump did not commit a crime in regards to the New York City “hush money” case. The case alleges Trump falsified documents to cover up an affair with an adult video star during the 2016 presidential election campaign. The poll was conducted by AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

Nearly half of Americans believe Trump is guilty of illegal activity in three other criminal cases happening against the 45th President. They also believe that the prosecutors and judge are treating him fairly during the court proceedings. About 50% of poll respondents think Trump is not fit to be the president if he is convicted.

The jury in the New York hush money trial will likely come to a decision in about six weeks. That occurs before the Republican National Convention where Trump is expected to officially accept the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election. The press and media coverage of the trials may have a negative impact on how voters view Trump as a viable presidential candidate according to poll data.

A Politico poll in July 2023 found that half of respondents believed Trump was guilty of the charges alleged against him in the New York trial. The new poll shows that Trump has received more support in the court of public opinion regarding the case. The former president has frequently stated that the prosecutions are politically motivated by his rival, President Biden.

Approximately 30% of Americans in the poll data believe Trump is being treated fairly by the prosecutors in the multiple criminal cases pending against him. 20% of respondents are “very confident” that prosecutors are not being unfair in their treatment of the presumptive Republican nominee.

An ABC News/Ipsos poll from August 2023 found that 65% of respondents think the charges against Donald Trump regarding attempts to overthrow the election and January 6 are serious charges. 52% of respondents think that Trump is guilty. Meanwhile, 46% of those polled believed the charges against Trump are motivated by politics. 49% of respondents thought Trump should have suspended his presidential campaign in wake of the charges. The new polling data confirms that Trump is getting more public support as the court cases continue.
